I wonder whether we should be talking about going “back” to something, when the future is different from the past. People use Amazon and Walmart because they are convenient — they represent a superior, more affordable product for most people. I agree with Douglas that some tax changes and improved regulation could incentivise a fairer approach to capitalism, but perhaps is restoring “Main Street” necessarily what we should do? Maybe it is, but it’s an assumption. As we move further towards an AI/robot controlled future, perhaps what we really need to do is ensure that everyone owns part of that economy.
