Thanks for your comment. I had a look at MYO Democracy’s website. I’d definitely be interested to hear about how you get on. It feels right to allow citizens to participate more directly in politics when the technology is there to allow it, but I am also scared that direct democracy could unleash populist causes. I liked that idea of citizens “up-voting” topics for discussion that MYOD is proposes — did I understand rightly that professional politicians would still be responsible for making the final decisions on issues put forward by the public? Have you looked into the UK government petitions law which requires parliament to consider public debates on topics raised in public petitions over certain thresholds?
