The idea of a private lane or freeway is interesting. I’m trying to imagine exactly how that would work, especially here in the UK where space is at a premium. Could you expand? Like it or not, usually with infrastructure like roads there is a “tyranny of the majority” in that whatever is most useful to most people is what gets implemented.

As for giving up complete control of your vehicle to AI or potential remote human controllers, yes it is a fear. It will be down to engineers to preclude by design the sort of hacking envisaged in I, Robot. Many other technologies have the same problem: to enjoy the benefits of a technology we have to compromise on freedom and control.
